A Level Press Release                GCSE Press Release

Start Up Arrangements for Thursday, 2nd September 2010

Letter from J Young                         Bus Timings for Years 8,10 and 11

Steyning is a very successful, large mixed comprehensive school offering a high quality education to students with a wide range of interests and abilities in a rural setting. Since 1614 we have had close links with our church and have developed an ethos that promotes the well being of all students.

In our most recent OfSTED report (September 2009) care, guidance and support were identified as outstanding.  We have a strong tradition in upholding core values of co-operation, courtesy, respect, tolerance and use of common sense leading to our students being proud of and committed to our school.  We have a very effective pastoral system that supports good behaviour throughout the school and allows every student the opportunity to succeed.

We are a Specialist Technology College and a centre of excellence for Mathematics, Science and Technology.  In recognition of High Performing Schools Status, we were awarded a second specialism as an Applied Learning School in April 2007.  We have good provision in practical subject areas (Art, Music, Drama and PE) and cater effectively for students in Humanities and Languages.  We have excellent facilities throughout the school and many of our classrooms provide access to the latest computer and interactive learning technologies.

Our well qualified and highly committed staff team offer specialist teaching in a wide range of subject areas.  As students move towards the later years of school life we increasingly focus on examinations as we are aware that good examination results will open doors for each student that might otherwise remain closed.  Our results are very good both at age sixteen and in the sixth form.  This led OfSTED inspectors to judge us as good with outstanding features in September 2009.

We aspire to be an outstanding school in every respect and are continually improving our practice to support the learning of each and every young person that enters our school.  We are committed to developing our students as lifelong learners who can learn independently, who can lead and be led, who can manage risk and who can show initiative.  We actively encourage students to consider their own learning and thinking styles and embrace generic learning skills that can be applied in a variety of different settings.

Our close links with parents and other partners in supporting our students' well-being and learning are very important to us and we recognise that we are at our most effective when school and parents/carers work together.

We aim to support every young person in ensuring that they become the best that they can be!

I am very proud to have been recently appointed as Headteacher of Steyning Grammar School after two previous headships.  I welcome you to our website and look forward to working with you in our ongoing quest to promote student learning.
